Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
 There are many "solutions" to this problem, but this is the one that actually works. The problem is that when you reinstall windows it does not contain some of the newer Windows update files and by re-writing the registry it also removes the registry information for them.
